My Youtube Philosophy
The blueprint guide to success.
Upon starting a business, owners are faced with one question.
Are we optimising for cashflow or growth?
It’s one or the other.
One is steady, less exciting.
The other is exciting, less steady.
We don’t have that problem anymore.
Thanks, YouTube.
You may think YouTube is a video platform.
It’s not.
YouTube is a marketplace.
It’s commodity…. attention.
Capturing attention is the new gold rush.
We do not go viral for the sake of it, we do it to build audiences.
Whether we are starting a side hustle, or a business, we are seeking one thing; leverage.
I think of leverage as ‘input vs output’.
If my input is high and my output is low. I have little leverage.
If my input is low and my output is high. I have a lot of leverage.
There are 4 types of leverage.
- Labour – Get people working for you
- Capital – Get money working for you
- Code – Get code working for you
- Content – Get content working for you
The difference between them? Limits.
Labour and Capital have limits.
Code and Content have no limits.
This is due to the low cost of replication.
Let’s go deeper…
You build a product with Code. It costs time and money.
You market the product. It costs money (and you still don’t know if it will work).
You create Content. It costs time and money, but you simultaneously earn.
You decide to create a product for your audience.
You market the product. It costs nothing. You already have attention (and it’s likely to work).
This is a highly simplistic model, but it’s why I prefer Content to Code. You build leverage, whilst generating cash flow.
Audience building > Adsense revenue.
YouTube is the ultimate form of distribution.
This form of distribution cannot be bought, only earned.
The next generation of entrepreneurs will build their businesses via this vehicle.
